New Extensions Installed

tags: ,

We installed a couple of new Mediawiki extensions for your editing pleasure. XFeed is a prettier alternative to the current RSS extension, and ParserFunctions is a collection of parser functions that was requested by a few people. If you’d like to see any other extensions installed, let us know. Remember, you can see what extensions are installed at any time by visiting Special:Version.

Site Update

tags:

We’ve managed to make a few repairs since the move. The RSS extension and Clickpic template are working again. We are now using APC as our PHP accelerator. This should improve performance. Let us know by commenting here or sending an email to administrators@tviv.org if you notice any issues.

We have also disabled article moves for regular users. The move function has been heavily abused by vandals. There has been some debate among the sysops over whether this is an overreaction. We welcome user comments on this issue.

Server Move and Upgrade

tags: ,

If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve moved to a new server. If you’ve been as frustrated attempting to access the site over the past couple of weeks, you know why we did it. Special thanks go out to to our new hosting company, HostGator, for getting us set up so fast.

Also, at the same time we upgraded the wiki software to Mediawiki 1.9.0. This has caused a few problems that we are working to iron out. The RSS extension no longer works, and the Clickpic template is not working. We also found that 1.9.0 is not compatible with any PHP accelerators we’ve tried. Our new server is faster and has more memory, so we hope that will make up for it.

Welcome to The TV IV Blog

tags: ,

We thought it would be a good idea to create a mechanism for some more topical writings about television. This will be the place to come for site news, commentary, editorials and more from the best writers on The TV IV. We hope you enjoy it.

If you are interested in becoming a writer for the blog, send an e-mail to adminstrators@tviv.org with some samples of your writing. If we like your stuff, you’ll become a regular blogger.
