Site Update

We’ve managed to make a few repairs since the move. The RSS extension and Clickpic template are working again. We are now using APC as our PHP accelerator. This should improve performance. Let us know by commenting here or sending an email to administrators@tviv.org if you notice any issues.

We have also disabled article moves for regular users. The move function has been heavily abused by vandals. There has been some debate among the sysops over whether this is an overreaction. We welcome user comments on this issue.

The latest round of vandalism seems to be the work of one person with too much free time or a small group of people that won’t give up. This is a pretty good way of limiting their powers until they do finally give up. It does seem a little harsh to make this permanent though since move vandalism is so easy to spot and not that intrusive as it leaves redirects behind and doesn’t affect the content. It was just made so much worse this time because of some bugs in the software that have since been fixed.

Keep the move function disabled as long as the vandalism persists, but reinstate it once things settle down again. Having to depend on an admin to move a page really slows things down, though for now it’s a lot easier than having to fix everything the vandals mess up.
