The IV Line: Week of October 29, 2007

Well last week seemed to go off well so here goes another week. Posting a bit late this week as I was out of town for the latter half of last week and the weekend.

This Week

Some high profile premieres this week starting with FX’s Nip/Tuck on Tuesday at 10PM. The show changes its setting to Los Angeles for its fifth season. Also starting on Tuesday at 10:30PM is Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is on BET the last of the network’s Tuesday reality block. A couple Halloween themed events on Wednesday. The Sci Fi Channel is airing their now annual six-hour Ghost Hunters (Wednesday 9PM) Live special this year Destination Truth’s Josh Gates guest hosts. The History Channel is also premiering their new show MonsterQuest (Wednesday 10PM) that will look into the historical truth behind famous monster sightings. History has another new show premiering Thursday at 9PM called Gangland which will tell the stories of America’s most famous gangs from Revolutionary War gangs to modern day drug traffikers. Friday sees the premiere of Cartoon Network’s new primetime original Chowder (Friday 7:30PM) about a wannabe chef in a crazy mystical city. Also of note starting this Friday is ABC’s schedule rearrangment. Men in Trees is moving to 8PM and 20/20 is moving back to its old 10PM timeslot. Seems to make sense Men in Trees is a much better fit for an earlier timeslot and it seems wierd not having 20/20 on Fridays at 10PM. Hopefully the move doesn’t hurt Trees‘ already low ratings. Sunday sees the return of The Amazing Race (Sunday 8PM) which skips right over the future update section into this upcoming week section. Due to Viva Laughlin’s attrocious ratings CBS pulled it after only one airing in its regular time slot and brought back the Race to the slot it had moderate sucess in last season. The series will travel to several countries it’s never visited before this season. There’s also a couple cable series premieres on Sunday. Court TV’s Secret Ops (Sunday 9PM) about special weapons and tactics teams aroung the country and VH1’s new reality competition, The Shot (Sunday 10PM), about 10 amateur photographers competiting for a fashion photographry job. A little less sensational from the network’s other reality competitions more in line with some of the off network repeats they air like America’s Next Top Model. Well that’s it for this week’s schedule changes on to updates for the future.

The IV Line: Week of October 22nd, 2007

So you’re probably wondering what this IV Line thing is. Well I want to try and post a weekly programming update listing premieres for the week as well as a round-up of whatever programming news came out during the previous week. I’m going to try and keep it focused just on programming and not other types of TV news (such as casting, spoilers, business, etc.). It’s also not really going to be a source for reviews although I’m not going to promise to keep it unbiased. I’m sure my opinions will be evident, but I’ll try and be as comprehensive as I can.

As for what format I’ll follow I’ll probably break it down into general sections of: This Week, New Program Announcements and Programming Updates. I think I’m going to use a kind of rambling descriptive style to list items rather than a bulleted list hopefully making it a more enjoyable read. If this proves problematic and/or too annoying or I just come up with something better/easier I may change the format.

You may be wondering why I chose the name well I wanted something that would be unique to our site and also conveyed the purpose of the column. I thought up several IV related names such as Programming Drip, IV Bag, TV Prescription Advisor, etc., but decided that the simple IV Line was descriptive enough while not being too overdone and instantly identified it as part of the site. If anyone has a suggestion for a different name I’d be happy to entertain any ideas.

Okay now that all the introductory information is out of the way time to get started with the meat of the column.

New Design for the Wiki

tags: ,

We are planning to rollout a new design for the wiki. It’s based on the current design with a few tweaks.

  • Different background - This will help to set us apart from Wikipedia.
  • Toolbar moved from the sidebar to the top of the article box - I’ve never liked the location of the Toolbox. This make it more visible.
  • A few other small changes

To see the new design, select TVIVBook on the Skin tab of the Preferences page. After everyone has had a while to check it out so we can work out any kinks, we’ll change this skin over to the default. We’ll keep the old skin available for those who want it. Feel free to leave any comments on the design here.

What do you think of the new wiki design?
