And the Nominees Are…
Well folks, the votes are in, and I am happy that I can now declare the official nominees for the 2007 IVy Awards and the 2007 Readers’ Choice IVy Awards!
For space consideration, I will only list some of the more popular categories, but complete lists can be found on the TV IV’s IVy Awards pages.
The envelopes please…
IVy Awards Readers’ Choice Official Nominees Ballots
At last! You may now vote for the Readers’ Choice IVy Awards OFFICIAL NOMINEES!
Feel free to vote in as many or as few categories as you choose. You may only vote once for each category. Top five vote-getters will be the official nominees.
Note that to be a nominee, a candidate must receive at least three votes. Each category must ultimately have at least three nominees. If any category receives fewer nominees, that category will be canceled. Wow! Hahaha! Do I ever feel silly for even mentioning this now.

The IVy Awards Are Back
Did you ever watch the Emmys or the Golden Globes (or how the Golden Globes would’ve turned out) and think, “My favorite show got ROBBED!”? Well, now’s the time to put your votes where your mouth is.
The IVy Awards, the TV IV’s own awards for the best of television, are back. And this time, every reader of the TV IV or this blog can vote on the outcome.
There are three stages to the process: The nomination proposal stage, the nomination stage and the winners voting stage. To receive a nomination, all possible candidates must be proposed in the nomination proposal stage, so be sure to propose your favorite TV shows, actors and episodes now. Feel free to argue for or against whomever you like.
Then on February 8th, the voting will open for the final five nominees in each category. This year, there will be two voting processes: One for administrators and the 30 top editors of the site, and one “reader’s choice” for everybody. Yes, even you.
Please note that from now on, the IVy Awards voting will take place in January, so all shows which have aired since June 2006 are eligible. So was something overlooked last year? Propose it!
Look here for more information throughout January and February, and best of luck to your favorite shows.
New Design for the Wiki
We are planning to rollout a new design for the wiki. It’s based on the current design with a few tweaks.
- Different background - This will help to set us apart from Wikipedia.
- Toolbar moved from the sidebar to the top of the article box - I’ve never liked the location of the Toolbox. This make it more visible.
- A few other small changes
To see the new design, select TVIVBook on the Skin tab of the Preferences page. After everyone has had a while to check it out so we can work out any kinks, we’ll change this skin over to the default. We’ll keep the old skin available for those who want it. Feel free to leave any comments on the design here.
New Extensions Installed
We installed a couple of new Mediawiki extensions for your editing pleasure. XFeed is a prettier alternative to the current RSS extension, and ParserFunctions is a collection of parser functions that was requested by a few people. If you’d like to see any other extensions installed, let us know. Remember, you can see what extensions are installed at any time by visiting Special:Version.
Site Update
tags: tv iv
We’ve managed to make a few repairs since the move. The RSS extension and Clickpic template are working again. We are now using APC as our PHP accelerator. This should improve performance. Let us know by commenting here or sending an email to administrators@tviv.org if you notice any issues.
We have also disabled article moves for regular users. The move function has been heavily abused by vandals. There has been some debate among the sysops over whether this is an overreaction. We welcome user comments on this issue.
Server Move and Upgrade
If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve moved to a new server. If you’ve been as frustrated attempting to access the site over the past couple of weeks, you know why we did it. Special thanks go out to to our new hosting company, HostGator, for getting us set up so fast.
Also, at the same time we upgraded the wiki software to Mediawiki 1.9.0. This has caused a few problems that we are working to iron out. The RSS extension no longer works, and the Clickpic template is not working. We also found that 1.9.0 is not compatible with any PHP accelerators we’ve tried. Our new server is faster and has more memory, so we hope that will make up for it.

We thought it would be a good idea to create a mechanism for some more topical writings about television. This will be the place to come for site news, commentary, editorials and more from the best writers on The TV IV. We hope you enjoy it.
If you are interested in becoming a writer for the blog, send an e-mail to adminstrators@tviv.org with some samples of your writing. If we like your stuff, you’ll become a regular blogger.
